This is a quality beautiful product. Braising with this Dutch oven opens up a new world of cooking. Get the cookbook on braising by Molly Stevens and get ready to take some bows. It doubles as a serving dish. It's heavy but that's what makes it work. Buy this and the 5 qt. size. Also you will need the buffet casserole. Best $150 you will spend. It's a kitchen workhorse.
Hot but Heavy
Thus far, I had made one meal in the casserole dish. It had cooked faster than I expected. The dish heats very well.You have to watch what you are cooking very carefully.My daughter has used it. She seemed happy with it.
The dish is very heavy.If you have nerve isses with your hands ,shoulders,neck or back,this item is not for you.It weight a ton.But I am keeping it.It's beautiful and it seems to cook well.To clean the inside I used Dawn with bleach and soaked it for a few seconds.The outside I wash with mild dish washing detergent. Immediately, I dried with a towel. So far, so good! Yes, I would recommend.
Great for baking, frying, simmering...what's not to love?
I've fried chicken, roasted lean meats, made paella and rice dishes -- everytime successfully. And what's more, clean up isn't a nightmare. Plus, because the casserole retains its heat, I find that the food stays delightfully warm without the stove/range needing to be on.
I have other cast iron enamel cookware that I love. And this compares very well.
The only caution I have is to those people who have a ceramic-topped electric range or range top. Cast iron cookware is not recommended for those. But it works great with induction or gas tops.
