Grill in the Kitchen
While this is not exactly grilling, we have had great success with it and it does score the meat. On the con side, cast iron requires a little more care off-duty than other materials, and ribbing makes this a little more work. In net, I'm still glad that we own this item.

The Ultimate Burger Pan
This thing is just flatout great.I bought it from Amazon in August and it's been in constant use for over two months.I haven't even tried to find a place to store and it just lives on top of my stove.
OK...I've done bacon,steaks,pork chops and burgers.They were all good.Rib steaks melt in your mouth.I'm 60 and been cooking all my life and I gotta tellya,hamburgers in these contraption are sublime.Out of this world.Yummy City.Regular flat bottom pans can leave you with alot of grease on the outside and dried up in the inside.With this pan,your burger rests on the ridges and above the grease.Then when the cooking meat begins to drip, the drippings hit the pan and turn to steam,flavoring the meat.Kinna like with a BBQ grill.You end up with a super,juicy,flavorful burger.Best ever.For 20 something bux, you gotta try it.My only gripe is the weight.I can barely pick it up with one hand.Lodge knew this and puts a little handle on the opposite side too.

If you can only have one...
If you can only have one piece of cast iron in your kitchen, this would be the one. It can do duty as a skillet, soup pot, dutch oven, baking pan and flipped over works as a griddle. I have made soups, stews, spagetti sauce, roast's, bacon & eggs, omelete's, cherry & peach cobbler, hotcakes, pineapple upside down cake and of course fried chicken in this fryer. Brown your chicken in batch's then pile it all in, slap on the lid and put it in the oven (or fire) to finish. The lid has just enough lip to hold coals when baking and seals tight enough to keep debris out of the pot. I have a small round wire rack that fits in the bottom of the pan and use it to steam large crustaceans (mostly dungeness crab) with corn and potatoes. It's just the right size for a New England crab feed for two. I have a lot of cast iron cookware, but this one is the most versitile and probably the most used. Highly recommend.

Lodge cast iron is super!
I bought this skillet because it is deeper. I have other Lodge skillets but to fry chicken, a deeper skillet works better. I love my cast iron. I find it easy to clean, which surprised me as I used to buy the enameled cast iron thinking it to be much easier to clean. However, the enameled cast iron started to chip over time so I went with the basic cast iron and have been quite pleased with the ease of cleaning.

Great piece for professional results at home...
This product is great for cooking so many different things. The heat is even, and strong. The construction of the item is top notch. However, if you're looking for a light-weight, easy-to-clean, fits in a drawer kind of grill/griddle, make another choice. It may be heavy, and it may not fit in my kitchen sink, but man, the food that comes off of it is SO worth it.

It's okay
The item is somewhat heavy and seems like cast-iron, but really isn't. The smooth side after the first day of use already had a piece or two chipped away. This item is basically a non-stick item. A iron skillet makes more sense then owning this item. I guess the only real use is the grill side.

For the Pancake King
Great size to fit over two burners. Perfect for Grandpa, the Pancake King. Well made!

A Lodge product that disappoints me
I'm certainly not the only person who loves Lodge's generally amazing reliability with cast iron cookware... for the price, you really can't beat it. However, this piece... missed the mark big time. Considering I have a Le Creuset oval griddle and a big square cornbread cooker to judge it against, it's fair to say this ... is not level. It wobbles, which I'd only expect if I was using a Betty Crocker nonstick "first pan for college cooking" type unit. The handles don't feel right, either... it doesn't behave at all like Lodge... more like that Bayou brand carried at Target and Wal Mart... So yeah, disappointed is a good word to sum it up.

One other detail to toss in here is a slight "beef" with Lodge for not offering anything with coated bottoms. The looks are not the issue... the issue for me is that I would LOVE to buy their flat, square cornbread cooker (or one of the better-performing griddles) for someone to make pancakes and the like with instead of one of the dozen "panini grills" with the ridges out there, but nope, not going to happen because that person has a glass cooktop. So an FYI many people could stand to know in this modern day and age=you can't use uncoated cast iron pans on glass or ceramic cooktops. Check Lodge Manufacturing's site if you doubt me, but it is very frustrating, as I have to pay a fortune just to get something painted and ultimately don't get exactly what I want (a flat square cooker with a couple inches of depth to hold more than just a pancake). Lodge has the shape and flat inner surface, but it'll ruin the cooktop, so oh well, bye bye Lodge, hello... big oval Le Creuset again. Maybe they'll "get it" some day and recognize that even a cheap T-Fal finish would suffice for those of us who don't really care if the paint chips but don't want the cooktop to stop conducting heat evenly from all the damage of cast iron.

Just what I wanted...
I ordered this griddle to replace my Teflon one - trying to replace all my teflon cookware piece by piece. I'm VERY happy with it. It came pre-seasoned and ready to use, and I've used it a dozen times already; for pancakes, for quesadillas and most recently, for grilled cheese sandwiches. It does take some "getting used to". It is very heavy for one. And it takes a while to pre-heat, because you don't want to heat it up too fast. I usually start it out on low heat (around 3 or 4 on my electric range). I pre-heat for about 5 minutes. This way, the heat gets evenly distributed. If you start cooking too soon, yes, it will be unevenly heated. Once you bring it up to heat, you need to watch it to make sure it doesn't get too hot. I leave it on 3 or 4, closer to 3 for pancakes, closer to 4 for grilled cheese - and it has cooked everything perfectly. Cleans up like a professional non-stick item and is tough, tough, tough. I use my steel pizza cutter to cut through quesadillas right on the griddle before serving them - something you definitely CAN'T do on Teflon!
Admittedly, a few drawbacks - the weight, the long time to pre-heat. But once you get used to it, you will love it just like I do.

I have been looking for this griddle for quite awhile. I found it on amazon and found it cheaper. I would recommend this to anyone.

I've used Lodge Cast Iron products for 20+ years now. There is nothing better than Lodge. For price or function. I have this skillet and several others that are used very often. I even have one that is over 100 years old. This skillet even got top honors on Cooks Country as the best cast iron skillet even over the $100+ French units. Lodge Rules!!!

Cast Iron ROCKS!
I have to say - I LOOOOVE cast iron! Love it! It wasn't until the last few years that I discovered the joys of cooking with cast iron - both with Le Creuset enameled cookware and this fabulous Lodge Logic cast iron.

I use cast iron to cook nearly everything - It's heat retention and even cooking is superior to everything - including stainless steel - I have a few stainless steel pots, as well as cast aluminum - and nothing beat cast iron.

This skillet, in my mind, is a must-have for any kitchen. Anything you could use a skillet or frying pan for, you can use this. I've made the best homecooked steaks in this pan, phenomenal burgers, incredible fish, sauces, braised meats, you name it. Sear it on the stove top and throw it in the oven for a quick broil - do it all in this pan.

Best of all - the cheapest pan I own is the one that I use the most and will last me forever...Get this pan, you won't regret it!!

The most versitile and BEST non-stick pan you will ever own!
Like Alton Brown says, this is the pan to have. When properly cared for (meaning by seasoning it once in awhile and not abrasively scrubbing and washing this pan with soap water) this pan will be the best non-stick pan you can find!

As a professional cook, when I cook at home I use this pan regularly. From deep frying (nice heavy pan holds heat well), pan searing then putting the whole pan into the oven to roast and finish, to even baking!

Do not use this for braising or say... making pasta, liquids don't do too well for this pan. I highly recommend this pan. Lodge has been making cast-iron for a long time and they make great products.

Be still my beating heart!
I had been looking for a lid for my cast iron fry pan and skillet forever before i chanced upon this beauty. It's a little expensive, but i figured it's a one time buy and a good price to pay for even cooking. I'm still not sure why it's priced higher than the fry pan and the skillet though. It's also a wee bit difficult to clean until one gets the hang of it. But nothing matches the beauty and efficiency of cast iron cookware. It's perfectly safe and lasts forever with careful use. Food cooked in cast iron cookware tastes better(although you can't say the same about stainless steel which is equally safe to use and sturdier). I'm always on the lookout for old, used pieces in garage and estate sales. I'd totally recommend this product.

Lid is more expensive then the frying pan
First of all let me say that I only use cast iron and stainless steel cookware. I don't use aluminum (brain damage) or non-stick (carcinogenic) cookware ever. Cast iron cookware takes years to season because it has to smooth out from use and the deposit of microscopic carbon molecules. Because of that pre-seasoning is kind of useless. I think every cook should have 3 pieces of cast iron: A grill pan, a dutch oven and a frying pan. If you can't cook it in one of those, it probably can't be cooked.

As far as the lid goes; it fits tightly on the Lodge Logic 12" frying pan. I wouldn't say it's an essential item (especially if you have a dutch oven) but it's nice to have. I think the price is too high considering that the frying pan (with more metal) is about 1/3 less expensive. This lid was $10 in 2007.

If you've never cooked with cast iron..
...you may find my experience helpful:
My mother had a cast iron skillet and loved it, but all I knew was that cooking in cast iron is healthier because nonstick pans can give off toxins, and the iron in cast iron migrates (in small amounts) into food, making food more nutritious. I also knew cast iron required seasoning, which sounded like a hassle - but this listing said the skillet was pre-seasoned, so I tried it. The first thing I cooked was fried eggs, which was a mistake. Even though I used vegetable oil as instructed, it took me 15 minutes to scrape the egg out using a stiff brush, a Teflon-safe pad, my fingernails, and hot water. The second thing I cooked was pancakes (which is what my mother used her skillet for). They cleaned up beautifully with just a stiff brush and hot water. The third thing I cooked was eggs again; it only took 5 minutes to clean the pan this time, again using a stiff brush, Teflon-safe pad, fingernails and hot water. (Note: never use soap on cast iron!) Given my experience, I'd say that the pre-seasoning Lodge Logic uses REDUCES the time it takes to season, but you should be prepared to still go through a bit of struggle until the pan becomes fully seasoned. THE GOOD NEWS, though, is that it's worth it. Not only is cast iron healthier to cook in, it makes the best-tasting eggs I've ever had in my life, especially if you use natural or organic freerange eggs. (Happy chickens really do make better eggs than stressed, miserable chickens.) THE BOTTOM LINE: follow the care and washing instructions carefully, cook something relatively non-stick the first 3-5 times you use your new cast-iron piece, and you'll discover, as I have, how much better food can taste.

Great Pan!
I bought this pan a while ago,and must say,it's great! the Diameter is perfect for pancakes,and they wont stick! Eggs,bacon,everything fries great in this pan,already seasoned is awsome also.Plus you don't have the chemicals,like in those no stick pans.These cast iron pans will last a lifetime!

great cookware
i love all the cast iron cookware i own but i think the lid is just a bit pricey (costs more then the pan)

10 1/4" Lodge Cast Iron Lid
I have the 10 1/4" lid. While this lid does not come with the "flanges" to cover the side spouts as described (it comes as shown in the picture), it is a great addition to my cast iron cookware and I now want the 12" lid for my 12" skillet.There is enough of a lip that the side spouts are pretty well covered (some steam escapes). The spikes on the lid seem to be helpful and aren't too much trouble in cleaning in my opinion.

A tip: If you are looking for a lid for your skillet and have a need for a dutch oven, you can get both by ordering one of the 5 or 7 quart dutch ovens. I believe the 5 qt. dutch oven has a 10 1/4" lid and the 7 qt. dutch oven has the 12" lid. This is more economical than buying a lid by itself (if you have need for or will use a dutch oven).

Just what I needed!
My ancient dutch oven originally came with a glass lid, which was broken many years ago during a move... I'd never gotten around to replacing it, and so rarely found uses for the dutch oven.

The Lodge lid fits my "other brand" pot perfectly, and has given a nearly-forgotten utensil a new lease on life.

Great!
I don't use this product very often but when I do I am guaranteed to get great corn sticks every time! When you use it make sure you use plenty of oil and that the pan is properly heated.

Slick non-stick cast iron
These cornstick pans make very nice crispy cornsticks when preheated and lightly oiled. I didn't have any sticking problems. Love the preseasoning.

Cornstick Pan
I love this pan. You can just pop them in your mouth no muss, no fuss. My husband who isnt a fan of cornbread, even loves them. I just make sure the oven is preheated, and my pan is sprayed well and I am good to go. I never have issues with sticking. Cast iron is wonderful for baking anything.
